Knee socks

So, a little while ago, Kate sent me some gorgeous sock yarn.
It's from something called Three waters farm, hand painted in the Aunt Maude or Crazy Maude colorway, depending on which skein you believe. It's 100% superwash merino, fingering weight, 373 yards each.
My first thought was, "Wow! That's enough to make knee socks!"
I suspect it is. I think that's the plan, although I've never done it before. Suzi Anvin has this brilliant tutorial on how to make the perfect knee socks, and I think I'm going to rely heavily on that.
Uh, any other suggestions? Have you made knee socks before? This is enough yarn, right? Favorite patterns? Any advice is appreciated.

I have absolutely no idea about pattern inspiration, but wow! That's some gorgeous yarn. I can't wait to see what you do with it.

Yes, that should be more than enough for knee socks. I wear a size 10 and use about 400 yards for fairly plain, crew-style socks. Cables use up a lot more yarn, lace a lot less. It all depends on the pattern and the size of your feet. With that much yarn, though, you should be able to do anything you want with them. Good luck!

that's so funny - i'm currently knitting knee socks! i'm using the evening stockings pattern from knitting vintage socks. it's a really pretty pattern, but the heel flap is too long (i only figured that out after the 1st sock). good luck with your knee socks!
