New Disgusting News

Seriously, kids. This is gross.
So I've been having tons of complications since I got my wisdom teeth out about a month ago. Everyone told me how easy it would be, and they were wrong.
Finally, after all this frustration and swelling, I decided to go to a different oral surgeon. He decided he needed to slice me open to drain the area. But there was an unexpected surprise.
There was a piece of gauze. In me. Presumably since the surgery.
It was about half an inch or so long and probably worsted weight.
So then they had to dig around to make sure there wasn't anything else in there (luckily there was not). I now have open slice wounds in my mouth (so it can continue to drain), and I'm incredibly sore from all the poking and digging. It hurts through the Darvoset, which I am taking like candy.
Yeah. I have two pair of socks to show you (one finished about three weeks ago now), but I'm going back to bed to try to sleep this off.

Oh, Sarah, I am sorry to hear about your wisdom teeth woes. I can't believe there was still gauze inside you. That sounds like something you would see on tv.

Lame! See, I knew that mouth doctors are secretly evil. Its not paranoia if they're really out to get you... but in my case it is. I hope you feel better! Load up on applesauce and ice cream while you still have the excuse. And sleep! Sleep is good for grad students!

I'm learning to be a lawyer.. let's sue them!

I'm kidding, of course. But I do hope that you get to feeling better soon. Take care!

Oh my gosh, Sarah, I am so sorry to hear about this latest problem with your teeth. Geez Louise! Whatever happened to 'GOOD DOCTORS'?

Think about Lorna's shoulder too.

I to think I just had surgery on my foot. Wow! Will WATCH IT.

Get Well Lorna's Mom

But that you were able to recognize the weight/gauge of the gauze shows you haven't lost your sense of humor OR your priorities.

Get well soon.

Ouch! I had nerve pain after oral surgery. No matter what, it hurts like the dickens. Hang in there and you'll get to feeling better soon now that the problem has been dealt with. I think I'd report the first doctor to whatever state agency oversees their licensing. Hugs!

Oh. My. God. Oh my GOD, Sarah!

Dude, that's why we do sponge counts in the OR. Three times, before we close anyone up.

Holy shit. I'm a little embarassed for my profession (and as a PS to Carol? There are still good doctors out there, I promise!).

Many good wishes coming your way! At least now you can really heal...

PS - It did crack me up when you referred to it as "worsted weight", though...

So the next time the Tuesday-nighters all tell you, 'Oh, it's a simple thing, it's nothing to worry about, the anticipation is the worst part, you'll be fine,' you're going to beat us with a swift, aren't you?

Totally.
