A Thousand Words

Some of you (Lorna) have been complaining that I haven't been blogging very much lately. This is true, and here's why.
Somewhere along the way, maybe it was after everyone got their really cool pictures up on ravelry, I became very self conscious about my photography. Maybe it's just my perception, but everyone seems to have gotten a lot better at it lately. It's no longer okay just to take a snapshot of what I've made, now I feel like I should live up to the standards of all you semi-pros out there.
On some level, this is crap. I'm a knitter, not a photographer. My crappy 3 year old blue light special digital camera and I just can't keep up with the megazoom slr's out there. But on the other hand, it's kind of one more step of finishing. I've gone through all the trouble to knit something awesome, and now I have to think of an awesome way to show it too. This is not my strong point.
I have socks, a bag, a dishcloth, some cat toys, and even a kitten-to-be to show you. I'm going to have to bite the bullet before I get too far behind. But still, if any of you want to offer photo tips for knits, I'd be more than happy to hear them.

Sure, blame it on me! I just enjoy reading your blog and miss it! If you like, bring some of your goodies tomorrow to knitting and I'll bring my camera and we can use some of the displays at the shop to photo them!

I'm the kind of person who cuts heads off and takes tilted pictures, even with the fancy digital camera Hubs bought. But he bought me a tripod last week, and it has changed my entire picture-taking mentality. I'm a knitter too (as opposed to a photographer), and I just turn my knitting light on, plunk whatever on my huge knitting chair (the Monster), and line up the shot in the screen. The tripod keep everything perfectly still, and my pictures are nice and crisp. I'll never be Ansel Adams, but it sure has helped me improve.

Hey, we all expect "Good & Plenty" words from you, unless somebody "ate" them.

Besides doesn't BLOG stand for BE LONG ON GABBING. Sooooo get with it.

Watch for those words as the deer and turkeys I watch for don't talk.

Enjoy everything INCLUDING the pictures.

I don't take great pictures at all... I still post them. I do have a great camera, but when I got it 2 years ago, I was using a disposable camera... At least your knitting meets your expectations... I am embarassed most of the time about how my knitting turns out. Don't worry about it so much. When I post a pic, I kid you not, I most likely have 20 that are blury and fuzzy.

I usually *hate* the pictures I take with my camera...but show them anyway, because people keep asking.

On another note, have you gotten any emails from your SP? She says she's emailed you, but not heard back from you...

I'm not good at pictures either...I can never seem to get the color balance or the lighting right. And all these people who take perfect outdoor action FO shots? I'm mostly jealous of their yards. Mine is not nearly perfect enough to reveal in an FO shot.

So I'm going to keep an eye on the comments to this entry, in case anyone has tips!

I just go for "in focus," and leave it at that. I know I'm a word person, not a picture person.

Yeah Lorna is one to talk--she has to be stuck with a hot poker to make her post anything. She wont even comment on my blogs any more--like 1 out of 10--what is that about?

I haven't posted a lot on my blog mainly because of this. I'm too critical of the pictures I take! I'm just here to say that I feel your pain, but for what it's worth, I like the pics you take of your stuff!
